Krishna Shenoy first joined the Reading Room at The Sixth Floor Library in Dallas, TX as a library-intern volunteer in 2010. The College of Information is proud to report that she now continues this work as the Reading Room’s new Librarian/Archivist, helping to provide access to more than 4,000 books, magazines, newspapers and videos and covers topics ranging from Kennedy's life and legacy to conspiracy theories to 1960s pop culture. Alumnus, Philip Montgomery (UNT LIS MS ’05) , was invited to the Gakushuin University in Tokyo, Japan to give a keynote speech at the symposium “Memory and Records in the Nuclear Era” on Nov. 20, 2011. UNT alumna Michele Lucero has recently been appointed as LAC Group’s Director of Business Development and Recruiting. She will be developing and maintaining LAC’s partnerships, building relationship through the sharing of information, and bringing the firm into new opportunities in digitization, knowledge management, and competitive intelligence. Since the 2011-12 Faculty Awards committee requested nominations for the Minnie Stevens Piper Professor Award, students, alumni, and faculty alike have put their vote in for Dr. Brian C. O'Connor. LIS Students Rhonda Pinter and Amanda Hawes were awarded the Dollar General Literacy Back to School Grant for a project proposed in the course: Library Operation and Policy Development. The $3,000 grant will create a Professional Literacy Library at Greta Oppe Elementary in Galveston. Wai Ma, Casey Ann Mitchell, Johana Orellana Cabrera, John Parker, and Rhea Watson from the ALA Office for Diversity and Spectrum Scholarship Program have all chosen to continue their academic careers at the University of North.
